As an indigenous woman, I love all things beaded. Adorning myself in beautiful things that sparkle gives me that extra power boost to get through my day, making me feel like I’m that girl. And crafting such items makes me feel peace, as it’s a huge healing tool for me. When I’m at my desk working on a piece, listening to fantasy audiobooks —I’m in my happy place. I always strive to use the best high quality materials and prayer into my work with intentions to protect, heal, energize and raise the vibe.
The majority of my work is made from smoked deer hide; cut beads of all sizes; and with gold or silver features. In some pieces, I’ll use materials such as porcupine quills, shells, and even caribou tuft for different textures and dimensions. Occasionally, I’ll bust out my sewing machine or sit down with some cedar bark and weave, but my main focus is beadwork.
